Trish’s story ...
Its all Lilly‘s fault - she was my first ferret, we met when I took a friend who
was looking for a ferret as a pet. At five weeks old Lilly was the quiet one in
the bunch, she was a tiny little fur ball that licked me and then fell asleep in
the palm of my hand, that was me hooked! From when I brought Lilly home at eight
weeks old we were virtually inseparable. Lilly went every where with me that I could
take her, most of the time asleep down the front of my jumper. At going on six years
old Lilly is the most laid back ferret you will ever meet. She won her first show
as a kit and that’s when I got hooked on showing. It was at this show where I met
Dave and Diane who run the ferret rescue at Carlisle and joined the show circuit
and from them gained most of my knowledge of ferrets.
Over the following years I started taking in unwanted ferrets and helping Dave and
Diane doing ferret racing and PR at the local country shows. I joined the Cambridge
ferret rescue and we would all travel down to the big country shows in Cambridge
and surrounding area where I won lots of trophy’s and rosettes with my rescued ferrets.
Through these events our reputation grew for showing the public what loving and
fun filled little pets ferrets are.
Of course there is a limit to the amount of ferrets you can keep and look after properly
and as much as I would like to keep every ferret that’s comes in I had to start
re-homing like Dave and Diane so we joined together to form the Lakes and Borders
Ferret Welfare and Rescue in the winter of 2008.
